As a self proclaimed lighting junkie and my current headlight retrofit being 10+year old technology I set out on a mission to update my system to the most recent tech with some retrofit kit improvements that I always wished were available.
Goals:
- Restore full function of the OE aiming system (to incorporate the lower fixed ball pivot)
- Reduce failure components (relay harnesses and large ballasts) & Use of Factory circuits to maximum extent possible
- To update to recent lighting technology (Morimoto BiLED 2.0 (PN: PR352))
- Maximize and OEM+ appearance to the E34/38/39 era projector headlights
- Compact mounting of all components
I believe I met all my goals with the small caveat that the driver side weather cover/LED driver interferes a bit with the OEM headlight air shroud piece. As I’ve long since ditched my factory air box, I cut out the majority of it this go around as the service access for the OEM bulbs didn’t really serve much purpose anymore.
Now you can meet my goals with your own kit and the DBG Headlight retrofit DIY

The DBG retrofit “Kit” will include ($135):
- 2ea Mounting brackets for Morimoto Bi-LED 2.0 retrofit projectors
- 2ea Headlight weather covers with integrated driver mounting
- All hardware necessary to mount the BiLED
Optional add-ons available at checkout include:
- 2ea Low beam internal shrouds to cover the headlight guts behind the fluted lenses (+$18)
- 2ea Low beam hole drill guide/jig (+$18)
- 2ea DBG fixed ball pivot repair kit (highly suggested) (+$30)
The more you bundle the more you save. Please see the bottom of the page for items not included in the DBG kits.
Shipping for all orders is a flat $20 in the continental US. However, I ship world wide but contact me for pricing. All orders will have a 6% VA sales tax. Parts may need to be made to your order so please expect up to 3 business days prior to receiving shipping details.

Shrouds are available in a few colors (note: these lenses were cut with the prototype drill guides and were not dialed in during development, photos are for shroud variations):

The drill guides allow for near perfect centering of the cut in the inner lens to the projector if your retrofit plan is to use the inner chrome ring lens for an OEM look as directed in the DIY.

The fixed pivot repair kit has been a staple of DBG offerings for the better part of 2 years as the plastic base is made of aged plastic that turns to dust in a stiff breeze.

Additional thing’s you’ll need to complete your project:
- Morimoto Bi-LED 2.0 retrofit projectors (PR352)
- A pair of 900x splitters if you want the OEM high beam and BiLED high beam to function simultaneously
- Shrouds if not using the cut fluted lenses, my experience is they don’t fit well on the BiLEDs
