Ever wanted your Z3 dead pedal to flex less and have a more solid feel?

Me too.

The Z3 dead pedal plastic part is a perfect example of cost engineering taking priority over real engineering.  The first time I removed the dead pedal the hollow space that resides behind the dead pedal always made me uncomfortable.  The panel is attached to the side of the car and fitted with tabs at the carpet, so that any weight applied to the face of it flexes the entire piece putting a high stress concentration into the internal corner where the pedal meets the speaker cover.

As our cars age and the plastic becomes more brittle, these stresses at the internal corner become even more problematic and cause cracking, which adding in the hollow nature of the piece leads to a lot of damage quickly.  What’s worse is these panels are now NLA in both Black and Beige from BMW.

To mitigate these risks DBG developed a reinforcement block. With the help of 3D scanning, modeling, and printing, we now offer a direct fit piece that takes the weight applied and transfers it to the floor where it should have always been.  The block is made with PETG filament that will resist cabin heat in the hottest summer months and is very strong. No modifications are required for installation, just remove the panel, place the block in position, and reinstall.

DBG will begin producing these for purchase around mid November (we’re waiting on some printer parts for increased print quality for customers)
