BMW Europe is cool in the fact that they have an OEM option for a hand held fire extinguisher with BMW part numbers. BMW Europe is uncool, since its not USA approved safety equipment, in they refuse to provide them to the USa based dealers. Years ago I was able to skirt this restriction through a car pen pal in canada that ordered the parts and shipped them across the boarder. Today, BMW will not even allow this. I thought I may be able to package these and keep some stock for those that wanted this very clean setup for themselves.

Being the stubborn person I am and having the ability to reverse engineer the mount from my own I had sourced back then I have re-produced the OE style bracket for the Z3 chassis.

These are assembled by hand, and welded together to mimic the OEM style attachments. The bracket hardware is included.

(don’t judge the welds in this photo too hard, I was dialing in my settings and the subsequent ones looked better)

I was working with a friend that had moved to Germany to figure out how to buy the 2kg bottles themselves and have them shipped across the pond but this avenue never got off the ground. The bottles are made by Gloria and are model P1DB. the nature of fire extinguishers classify them as hazmat, naturally, so shipping is well complicated when getting international.

A group chat with other Z3Coupe owners of my latest venture had reached a friend of one in the chat who is starting up OEMextinguishers.com. Tyler reached out to me and offered to team up, I supply brackets to him, he had sources already worked out to get the bottles, and we use his already established website to market them to those that are looking to the OEM+ option that is long gone for any North America based Z3 owners.

If you’re wanting to grab the whole oem+ option, head over to oemextingushers.com and get your name on the list as they will be available soon in limited quantities (with more on the way).

If you’re interested in the mount to find your own solution for the bottle feel free to reach out to me directly.

How close did I get to reproducing the OEM bracket you may wonder? Well here’s my side by side inspection I did myself when they arrived. The only real difference between them is the flange width on the lower edge, which was a product of production limitation. To achieve the bend, the material had to have a certain length past the bend line for it to be produced. Otherwise, and I know I am a little bias, these are spot on.
